Weddings always go by at such a fast pace meaning theres rarely time to experiment with different setups and techniques so the course that myself and Jon went on today was not only a great learning experience and chance to meet some other cool wedding photographers but it was also a chance to experiment and try stuff we don’t always get chance for at the weddings we shoot.
The training day was put on by the great people at Experience Seminars who specialise in courses for people using Canon equipment and todays course was a specific one for flash photography. We always prefer to shoot natural light where possible but n a wedding situation with a tight schedule and ever changing light its not possible to get the best shot with natural light so spending some money on training to improve our flash technique and knowledge was a worth while investment.
Training by Experience Seminars was top notch, the two models they brought for the shoot were beautiful and very good sports in the cold conditions we had today, and we had a great tim chatting and networking with the other photographers there. (Promised this link to the other photographers > Wedding Foto Forum < its free to join guys and a great resource for wedding photographers)
Anyway, enough of my waffle heres a few pics from the day.
Our very good looking model couple, that aren’t actually couple.

dsajones - Hi Nick,
I didn’t realise you were using the 30Ds on the day. Any possibility you could email me a couple of your originals out of the camera just so I can see a direct comparison. This is the first opportunity I’ve had to do a real side by side comparison with another 30D. I’ve always had a couple of concerns about mine. No problem if you can’t though.
Cheers
David
Nick - Hi David,
Totally agree on the models, they were stars in those conditions werent they!
Ours were also shot with 30D’s, and yes there was a bit of extra saturation added in post processing, think it was about 10 in CS2.
Lenses also make quite a difference we find, L glass and other top end lenses definitely give us shots with more vivid colours.
Nice to see you on the day David, hopefully we will meet up on another course sometime.

dsajones - Hi Nick/Jon. Agreed, it was an excellent day and I don’t know how the models managed to keep those smiles going all day! Nice photos. Pretty pleased with most of mine. A marked difference between mine and yours though is colour. Have you boosted colour much in post processing? Or am I just seeing the natural difference in tonal range between your 5Ds and my 30D.
Cheers
