The first run is always the hardest….

… least I hope that’s how I remember it going anyway!

I was meant to go to the gym tonight but by the time I got round to it the gym was already shut (well it was 11pm after all) so feeling a bit peeved off that I hadn’t made it the 200 yards down the road to the gym I decided to go out for a little run instead.

A couple of years ago I was doing a lot of running (40-60 miles per week) as I was training for the 2006 Flora London Marathon but since then 2 jobs and a life have gotten in the way of getting out with any regularity and I don’t think I have run at all in the last year which is very bad of me.

The pounds have inevitably piled back on as well now so its good time to start getting back out there and doing something about it and there’s no quicker way for me than a sensible diet and running regularly, so tonight’s run was stick in sand time and now that I have blogged it as that I have a good chance of keeping it up.

I set off tonight just aiming to get round my usual 3.3 mile circuit without having to walk too much of it but in the end my Yorkshire stubbornness carried me all the way round without stopping ….. so OK it was very slow but getting round without having to stop felt like an achievement with the low target I had set myself for this first run.

I managed to dig my fancy running watch out before I set off and was amazed (and a little disappointed truth be known) there was enough charge in it to last all the way round to record my pitiful time.

Distance = 3.29 miles
Time = 37mins 14 seconds

When I was doing a lot of running before my best ever time for 10km (6.2 miles) was just under 43 minutes, which kinda shows how far back I have slipped …… but its also something to aim for, bath and bed is the aim right now though.
