We arrived at the Meridien Hotel and Spa outside Split yesterday and said goodbye to our boat this morning after spending the last night on it after our black tie dinner but no pictures of that yet, this is a catch up from the last few days where we haven’t had net access or been in one place long enough for me to post.
The day before yesterday (Wednesday) morning we started off at the port of Bol on the Island of Brac where we had been moored up overnight and then motored a few miles down the coast to a bay where windsurfing and other water sports activities were available. We moored up “just off” the beach, which in reality means we were moored as close as your allowed to get with a boat this big that draws a lot of draft whilst also staying out of swimming areas which was about 500 metres but for one of our team (who hasn’t done much swimming at all) it looked more like 5 miles!
We’ve had the One Team approach all holiday and we weren’t prepared to break it in this case so instead of leaving Admiral Hobnob behind on the boat we adopted a formation around him that is usually reserved for the likes of Air Force One, James on right flank, Jon W on left flank and yours truly bringing up the rear as we guided him towards the beach.
This worked very well on the way there and we all made it safely to the beach in nice tight formation, the return trip swimming against the currents and wind was a bit harder though and after a couple of miles walk and then an hours hard windsurfing in hot conditions and walk back to the beach before the return swim I have to say I felt more like a tired old sheep dog guiding the last sheep home than a fighter jet and if I could have thrown a saddle on Admiral Hobnob and ridden him back to the boat then I would have.
Happy to report that everyone survived our windsurfing expedition and whilst I would have preferred the winds to be stronger it was great conditions for those that hadn’t tried it before to have a go and everyone did exceptionally well to get going out and back in within the 1 hour lesson.
After our mini WindurfSwimWalkathon we had lunch and then set sail towards the port of Milna on Brac and for those of us with enough strength left in our arms more towing behind the boat, which is great fun but definitely gets more challenging when you get past 5 knots.
The port of Milna is a decent size in terms of the number of boats moored there but there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of anything else there, couple of bars and a couple of take away food places is all that we saw but with the Barcelona v Manchester United game on that night we didn’t need much else to keep us entertained.
Corrections : When I wrote my previous post to this I must have either been a little bit tired and also quite drunk because my spelling of our hostesses name (Nera) was atrocious and I even managed to get our captains name completely wrong, he is called Marko not Paco as I previously wrote. I guess in my defense we haven’t really used their names much this week either as they were quickly christened Stig and Dora.
Anyway here’s some pics from the last few days with more to follow (probably later tonight) and as with all the pics this week the majority were taken by me but some of the other guys have also handled the camera at times and taken pics, particularly Jon W and Andy L, and if you can see all of us in a shot then it was probably taken by our hostess with the mostest or if we were out and about a random stranger
